THE ATLANTA POPS ORCHESTRA

The Atlanta Pops Orchestra continues its 75+ year journey in 2023 by enriching communities throughout the southeast with live performances of popular orchestral music. By collaborating with guest artists from a variety of popular music styles, as well as presenting exhilarating performances featuring the orchestra’s musicians, the Atlanta Pops Orchestra engages diverse audiences with moving musical experiences. With instrumentation that combines the four sections of a classical orchestra—strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion—with a jazz/pop rhythm section of piano, bass, and drums, the Atlanta Pops Orchestra brings to life music that inspires and excites people of all ages and backgrounds.

 

The Conductor and Music Director is Dr. Jason Altieri who also serves as Associate Conductor of the Reno, NV Philharmonic and Director of the Orchestra Program at The University of Nevada, Reno.

The Atlanta Pops Orchestra has been involved in a number of recording projects and has traveled to concert halls in the southeast & midwest US to perform more than 150 concerts over the past 10 years. The Atlanta Pops is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

TIMOTHY MILLER

A native of Augusta, GA, tenor Timothy Miller is an active performer with both national and international credits.  Operatic roles include First Armored Man in Mozart’s Die Zauberflӧte, Street in Davis’ X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X, Un Messaggero in Verdi’s Aida, Parpignol in Puccini's La Boheme, Comrade Alexander Ossipon in Curtis Bryant’s The Secret Agent (World Premiere).   Mr. Miller performed the role of Crab Man in critically acclaimed performances of Porgy and Bess at the Opéra-Comique in Paris and on tour in Luxembourg, Granada, and Normandy. Concert repertoire includes tenor soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Magnificat, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Mozart's Requiem,Verdi's Requiem, Mendelssohn's Lobgesang, and Adolphus Hailstork's I will lift up mine eyes.  Additional concert repertoire includes excerpts from Richard Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.  Perhaps most widely recognized for his stirring renditions of “God Bless America” during the seventh inning stretch of Atlanta Braves home games, Miller has extended his exposure well beyond the concert stage.  Featured artist promos for Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim, and featured artist profiles for The Atlantan Magazine, Georgia EMC Magazine, and My Vinings-Smyrna Magazine round out a growing list of memorable career highlights.  In addition to a busy performance schedule, Mr. Miller is also an Assistant Professor of Voice and Music at Morehouse College and serves on the board of the Meridian Herald.

KELLI DODD

Kelli Dodd (Steffen) is an Alabama-based actor and singer.  She holds an M.Ed. in Spanish Education from Auburn University.  Formerly of Colorado Springs, she has performed in regional houses across the country.  She and her husband, Kyle, have recently relocated to the South, where he directs the theatre program at Snead State Community College.  

Kelli is a proud member of the Actor's Equity Association.  

Recent credits include: Bright Star, Always...Patsy Cline, Kelli Sings Dolly! (the Legacy Theatre), the world premiere musical Darlin' Cory (Alliance Theatre), Million Dollar Quartet (Virginia Samford Theatre) Virtual Holiday Cabaret (The Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center),  Radio Play "Of Spacious Skies" (Colorado Springs FAC), The Bridges of Madison County (The Colorado Springs FAC), The Great American Trailer Park Musical (Mountain Rep Theatre), Dolly Parton’s Stampede and Christmas Celebration in Pigeon Forge, TN (WCI), Always...Patsy Cline (MRT and The Legacy Theatre), The Marvelous Wonderettes (MRT and Virginia Samford Theatre), Pump Boys and Dinettes! (TNT), tour as Libby Liberty™ (LLF), Annie Get Your Gun (Thin Air Theatre Company) Holiday Spectacular (Red Mountain Theatre Co.), Smoke on the Mountain (Central Alabama Theatre), and Footloose! (The Legacy Theatre).

Kelli also performs a variety of folk, bluegrass, country, and traditional songs in solo performances, and you can often find her playing the piano or singing in church.  She and her husband Kyle enjoy working as teaching artists with multiple theatre education programs.  She is a visiting, full-time instructor of Spanish at Jacksonville State University, where she obtained her undergraduate degree in Spanish.  

KEVIN SPENCER

Raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, his music touring career started at age 17 as a soldier/drummer in the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders Pipes & Drums. By the age of 21, Kevin had completed tours through the US, CAN, UK, & Germany, with notable performances for Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, and Royal family at the Deuchlande Halle in Berlin, Germany. 

A few friends who have enlisted his talents as a musician or composer: Kristian Bush (Sugarland), Rita Wilson, Lindsay Ell, Rymes With Orange, Mudgirl, Daughtry, Lilith Fair, RENT (as Roger Davis; 550 shows from 2001-2004), Little River Band, Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen, and he spent 5 years solely working for landmark producer/master musician, Daniel Lanois (U2, Peter Gabriel, Bob Dylan).

He is married to his best friend of 21 years, Krystee Manifold Spencer, Design Producer for HGTV, Netflix, and Magnolia Network.

Spencer has composed, arranged, and produced 100+ jingles for US-based corporations. He has also appeared in The X-FilesThe Chris Issak Show; and as himself in 11 MTV/MuchMusic videos, the NBC Movie Mother, May I Sleep With Danger with Tori Spelling, as well as the the 2022 Sony Pictures feature film Lyle Lyle Crocodile.
