Special Programs at OPAC
At the Oxford Performing Arts Center, our Special Programs go beyond the ticketed performances—these initiatives reflect our commitment to engage the community, nurture young talent, and make the arts accessible to all. Discover how we’re creating memorable experiences for families, schools, and the broader Oxford / Calhoun County region.
1. Free & Low-Cost Community Events
We believe in the transformative power of the arts—and that it should be available to everyone. Our community-focused special programs include:
-
Free Movies
Seasonal film nights and family favorites on the big screen. When possible, we include accessibility features like captioned showings. -
Oxford Community Chorus Concerts (Free Admission)
Celebrate local voices with uplifting, community-driven performances in our theatre. Note: Some free events may offer first-come seating or recommend early arrival due to high demand. -
Free Community Events & Festivals
Family-friendly gatherings throughout the year—block-party vibes, holiday happenings, themed lobby activities, and partner celebrations with the City of Oxford.
2. School & Youth Engagement
Helping the next generation discover the magic of the stage is core to OPAC’s mission. Our special programs for youth include:
-
School Day Away Series: Daytime performances tailored for middle and high school students, followed by Q&A sessions with artists and staff.
-
In-School Residencies & Outreach: OPAC artists visit schools for demonstrations, mini-performances, or masterclasses.
-
Youth Workshops & Camps: Short-term intensives in theatre, music, stagecraft, and arts leadership, often culminating in a public showcase.
3. Artist Development & Special Projects
Our special programs also serve the creative process—supporting artists, innovative presentations, and underserved genres. Highlights include:
-
10×10 Series: A curated program spotlighting ten regional artists over ten performances—an intimate, up-close experience for the audience and a professional platform for artists.

5. Why It Matters
The arts enrich the lives of individuals and strengthen the fabric of communities. At OPAC:
-
We bring high-quality, meaningful arts experiences to northeast Alabama that might otherwise require travel to larger markets.
-
We provide pathways for local young people to gain exposure to the arts, build skills, and envision possibilities beyond the stage.
-
We foster intergenerational programming that reflects and serves our community and region.
-
We cultivate regional cultural vitality—making Oxford a destination for performing arts, creativity and civic pride.
